I know what you mean: semantic issues in Internet-scale publish/subscribe systems

چکیده
In recent years, the amount of information on the Internet has increased exponentially developing great interest in selective information dissemination systems. The publish/subscribe paradigm is particularly suited for designing systems for routing information and requests according to their content throughout wide-area network of brokers. Current publish/subscribe systems use limited syntax-based content routing but since publishers and subscribers are anonymous and decoupled in time, space and location, often over wide-area network boundary, they do not necessarily speak the same language. Consequently, adding semantics to current publish/subscribe systems is important. In this paper we identify and examine the issues in developing semantic-based content routing for publish/subscribe broker networks.

Achieving Scalability and Security in Publish-Subscribe Web Services
Scalability in Internet-scale distributed systems can be achieved through the publish-subscribe communication paradigm. In publish-subscribe systems, interacting parties communicate asynchronously, possibly connected at different times and possibly without knowledge of each other’s identity. Though this decoupling promotes scalability, it presents significant challenges to a security model. Sec...
متن کاملSecurity Issues and Requirements for Internet-Scale Publish-Subscribe Systems
Publish-subscribe is a communication paradigm that supports dynamic, many-to-many communications in a distributed environment. Content-based pub-sub systems are often implemented on a peer-to-peer infrastructure that enables information dissemination from information producers (publishers) to consumers (subscribers) through a subscription mechanism. In a wide-area pubsub network, the pub-sub se...
متن کاملInternet-Scale Web Services-based Event Notification Systems
Internet-scale Web services-based event notification services face several new challenges that have not been addressed in traditional event notification systems. In this paper, an Open Publish/Subscribe (OPS) model is proposed to address these new challenges. The openness of OPS model enables collaboration among different event notification systems from different organizations. The layered arch...
متن کاملTowards an Access Control Mechanism for Wide-Area Publish/Subscribe Systems
The publish/subscribe communication model is increasingly considered for implementing middleware infrastructures for widely distributed applications. Scalability issues and routing algorithms of such systems have recently been the focus of intensive research. So far little attention has been given to security and management issues. In current publish/subscribe systems, malicious publishers can ...
متن کاملSurvey of Publish Subscribe Event Systems
The Internet has changed considerably the scale of distributed systems, motivating the demand for more flexible communication models and systems. Individual point-to-point and synchronous communications, which tend to lead to rigid and static applications, are making way for the more loosely coupled interaction such as is supported by a publish-subscribe paradigm. In this paper, we define a tax...
